About this image: Covent Garden Market (London, Ontario) had its beginning in 1835 when a patent was issued to hold a “public fair or mart” in the area of Richmond, Dundas and King Streets. In 1845, the Market found a permanent home when city business owners donated land near Richmond, Dundas and King Street.

In 1958 the original building was replaced by the one featured in this print. Many Londoners have fond memories of the market in this form with the beloved Market Pet Store, fresh bakeries and the coin operated mechanical horse that every kid loved to ride but it was demolished in 1998 and replaced with a more modern incarnation.
